JOANNA REAGAN: HOPSON SHOULD GIVE BACK EVERY DEMOCRATIC DOLLAR
Below is a statement from Texas Democratic Women President-Elect Joanna Reagan of Cherokee County, TX regarding the need for Rep. Chuck Hopson to return campaign funds he’s raised as a Democrat from Democrats and questioning his word to his rural constituents:
“As an official of the Texas Democratic Women and Cherokee County neighbor, I call on Chuck Hopson to return every dollar he has raised from his former fellow Democrats, who believed and trusted in him.
“It’s bad enough that Chuck Hopson gave us his word he wouldn’t switch parties, but it’s even worse that just two weeks ago he took our money at a fundraiser and didn’t bat an eye.
“If he won’t keep his word to us, what about the children in our schools, our senior citizens, our private property rights, the Neches River, the East Texas Railroad – all causes and values he has also claimed in the past. Will he be as quick to throw those over and if he claims no, can we believe him?”
We deserve an elected official we can trust – and no matter what party Chuck Hopson belongs to, it’s clear his word isn’t worth a dime.”
